Parlay Betting Guide

A parlay combines multiple bets into one ticket. All legs must win for the parlay to pay. The reward is bigger payouts; the cost is dramatically lower win rate.

How Parlays Work

Each leg you add multiplies the odds. A 2-leg parlay of two -110 bets pays roughly +264 (about 3.65x your stake). A 5-leg parlay of -110s pays about +2,353 (24x).

The catch: each leg has only a ~50% chance of winning at -110. A 5-leg parlay needs all five to win, which gives you about 1 in 33 odds.

The Math Against You

Books bake the vig into every leg. A "fair" 5-leg parlay should pay around 32x — books pay around 24x. That extra 8x gap is the parlay margin: the longer the parlay, the worse the price compared to fair.

For most bettors, parlays are entertainment, not strategy. Long-term EV is negative for parlays beyond 2-3 legs at standard pricing.

Same-Game Parlays (SGP)

SGPs let you combine bets from a single game — Patrick Mahomes over 250 yards + Chiefs to win + over 47.5 total. Available at FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, and most other NJ books.

SGPs are even worse value than regular parlays because the books price in correlations conservatively. Treat them as entertainment plays, especially around the Super Bowl, March Madness Final, and World Cup Final.

Smart Parlay Strategy

  • Cap legs at 2-3. Variance compounds quickly past 3 legs.
  • Use bonus bets. Parlays are an excellent place to deploy bonus bets — the upside is bigger and your real money isn't at risk.
  • Check parlay-boost promos. NJ books frequently offer 25% or 50% boosted parlay payouts on specific games.
  • Avoid round-robin gimmicks. Round-robins inflate stake without changing the underlying EV.
